This qualification will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to assist in the provision of preventative, curative and rehabilitative nursing. You will also learn about anatomy and physiology, infection control, nursing care of the client, legal and ethical parameters of nursing practice and promote positive health. You will also develop an understanding of health issues of Indigenous Australians and contribute to the nutritional and mental health care of the client. Your learning will incorporate a large component of supervised clinical practice in health care settings.

This qualification covers the application of nursing skills and knowledge required to be eligible for enrolment with the Nursing and midwifery regulatory authorities. During this qualification the student will take part in a number of supervised clinical practices in different health settings, providing a range of experiences required for professional nursing practice.

Students will study anatomy and physiology, infection control, and legal and ethical parameters of nursing practice.

On completion of the Diploma of Nursing graduates can gain employment in the health industry.

This qualification is delivered at South Metropolitan TAFE over 3 Semesters, which equates to 18 months of full-time study.

  • This is a full-time training course, requiring a total time commitment of 4-5 days per week including time spent at home or the library working on assignments. In addition, you will be required to attend a total of 12 weeks clinical placement which will be full-time in the workplace for 5 days per week (this will include weekends, early, late and night shifts over the 18 month course)
  • As a student you will also have additional costs associated with your study eg: you will need to obtain a Working With Children Check, National Police Clearance, and Department of Health police clearance. You will also need to pay for uniform, medical clearance and immunisations as well as essential books, stationery, printing and other materials required for your assignments.
  • This qualification will provide you with the advanced skills and knowledge in Enrolled Nursing in areas of specialisation, such as client assessment, care and management across a wide range of health care settings. You will learn skills to assess clients and manage client care and apply research skills within a contemporary health environment and will learn skills in areas such as Palliative care nursing, Perioperative nursing and Acute care nursing.
