This course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to assist health staff in the provision of services to client/patients within a health care setting. You will learn about team work and effective communication, infection control processes and procedures and basic medical terminology. You will also learn skills to assist with clents and provide support to nursing team in an acute care environment.

This qualification covers workers in a range of work roles who provide assistance to health professional staff with the care of clients. Health Services Assistance involves the worker, working in direct client contact under supervision.

This qualification has been structured with elective groups for specific work functions in the health care environment.

Please note: The elective units selected at South Metropolitan TAFE are job oriented for general work functions:

South Metropolitan TAFE delivers this qualification over 1 semester, which equates to 6 months of full-time study.

Murdoch and Rockingham Campus : The course is delivered two days in the classroom in Term 3 and one day in the classroom plus 1 day work placement in Term 4.
Peel Campus: The course is delivered one day in the classroom along with simulated work placement and the remainder is done online.

* Course Study Plan: There is one additional unit, HLT8SS003 Perform General Cleaning Duties in a Clinical Setting awaiting approval. Once this is approved it will be added to the attached Course Study Plan.

Resource fees:

this fee covers the cost of materials and consumables provided by South Metropolitan TAFE. Resource fees vary depending on the content of the course. Some courses such as marine studies, fishing operations, horticulture and outdoor recreation, incur high resource fees.​​
